This course is designed to provide you with the basic knowledge to safely use and navigate a digital environment.

We will cover basic digital terminology (modem, hard drive, server, Windows, Wifi, Cloud), introduce the most frequently used Microsoft applications (Word, Outlook, Excel) and discuss the importance of cyber security (including defining terms like malware, phishing, whaling) with tips on how to safely use email and computers.

Anyone who is not comfortable working with computers, technology or digital stuff.

None. Anyone can attend this course - bring an open mind and a desire to learn!

Build your digital confidence and knowledge (and learn what ‘digital’ actually means). At the end of this course you will have a basic understanding of computers and Microsoft applications.

Introduction to Digital Literacy

We’ll start with a quick activity to cover the meaning of some important terms that will help make it easier for you to use computers without needing to ask for help every 5 minutes.

Microsoft Office & Windows

We’ll get some hands on experience using some of the most common Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). We will cover basic saving and tasks that will give you the confidence to explore and use these computer applications without the worry that you might break something.

Cyber Security

Now that you have the confidence not to break anything, we need to make sure you keep your computer and the information on it safe from others too. We’ll discuss cyber security and practice some key skills (marking emails as spam, opening attachments) that can help keep you safe when working with computers and the internet.
