About this Course

This course is designed to provide the necessary skills for creating and editing Portable Document Format (PDF) documents or anyone interested in creating electronically distributed PDF documents.

Prerequisites

We recommend that attendees are familiar with the Windows environment or have attended the Windows: Getting Started course and have had some experience with a graphics package.

Course Outline


Overview / Introduction
Explanation of the benefits of PDF, what PDF means and why PDF files are used.

The Acrobat Window
Develop familiarisation for the Adobe interface. Look at the different zoom methods, panel arrangements and associated tools required for editing and outputting PDF files.

Creating PDF Files
Learn the various methods of creating PDFs and controlling the files sizes, dpi and file types. Optimising files for Press, Printing, Screen; these variations require different approaches to file sizes.

Editing PDF Pages
Move, delete, rotate, add and extract pages from PDF documents.

Editing PDF Content
Edit the content of the text and the images in a PDF file using various editing tools.

PDF Navigation
Add navigation features so that users can easily view and find the information in the PDF file by setting links and bookmarks. 

Annotating PDF Documents
Adding comments, notes etc as a Reviewer, so that corrections and alterations are indicated.

Forms – Acrobat
Create user interactive forms with the basic form tools.

Distributing PDF Files
Setting password protections, defining opening views for the user, and giving printing and editing permissions.

Finding and Searching
Creating searchable PDF files, by indexing many PDF files / folders so that topics can be found across many PDF documents.

Text Recognition (OCR)
Convert a scanned file into a searchable text using OCR tools and optimisation techniques.

Printing and Print Production
Look at In-House printing options and Commercial Print settings for external printing.
