About this Course

This course is designed for new users of the Microsoft Windows operating system who will be moving on to use software such as e-mail and other Microsoft Office products.

Our aim is to make you familiar with a Personal Computer and the Microsoft Windows environment (referred to here as Windows).

Windows is the operating system at the core of your computer. Every other piece of software you use is influenced and controlled by the operating system.



Prerequisites

The only prerequisites for this course are a pulse and a smile

At Course Completion

In this course we cover the basic features such as:

  • Explaining terminology
  • Using the mouse
  • Starting programs and switching between different programs.
  • Using the Keyboard.

It is important that you use your new skills as soon as possible on completion of this training course. We encourage you to take your own notes, and to review the Course Guide once you are back at your workplace

Course Outline


Hardware
Identify the different components that make up a Personal Computer (PC); Learn how to use the mouse and navigate your keyboard.

Software
Learn the basic differences between Files, Programs and Operating System. Acquire an understanding of the different types and purposes of the office productivity software available.

Managing Windows
Learn how to open and close windows, start and shut down programs, and switch between open programs.

Introduction to File Management
Once in a program look at making changes to a file, saving these changes, then closing the file and retrieving it later.

The Desktop
Become familiar with the layout of your PCs Desktop and perhaps change some aspects.
